The 1.85 mm spacer is designed to allow 8- and 9-speed road bike cassettes, as well as 8- to 11-speed MTB cassettes, to be used on 11-speed road bike freehubs. By adding an additional 1.0 mm spacer (usually included with the cassettes), you can also install 10-speed road bike cassettes.
